Scan Export terms of use

These terms cover your use of the Scan Export mobile app. Installing or using the app means you accept them. They are written to be read, not to be long — if something here is unclear, email us and ask.

Who provides the app

Scan Export is provided by Ali Završnik, trading as Silom Digital, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia, European Union. You can reach us at admin@silomdigital.com. Separately, the privacy policy describes what the app does with data; it forms part of these terms.

What the app does

Scan Export reads text from a page you photograph or from a file you import, and exports it as TXT, PDF or DOCX. Standard scans are processed on your device. Complex Writing is an optional mode that sends that page’s image to our backend and on to Google’s Gemini AI to be transcribed, for handwriting and layouts on-device recognition handles badly.

Minimum age

You must be at least 16 years old to use Scan Export. We have set it at 16 rather than 13 so that it agrees with the privacy policy, which states the app is not directed at children under 16 — and because free-tier advertising relies on your consent, which in parts of the EU a child under 16 cannot give without a parent. If you are under 16, please don’t use the app.

Subscriptions, billing and cancellation

Scan Export is free to use with a small monthly Complex Writing allowance and ads. Plus and Pro are optional auto-renewing monthly subscriptions that raise that allowance and remove ads. The current price is the one shown in the app and on the store listing at the moment you subscribe.

Two things about this matter more than anything else on this page:

• We do not bill you. The store does. Payment is taken by the Apple App Store or Google Play, under your own account with them, using a payment method we never see.
• Cancellation happens in the store, not in the app. There is no cancel button inside Scan Export.

• iPhone and iPad: Settings → your name at the top → Subscriptions.
• Android: Google Play → your profile picture → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions.

Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. The subscription lives with your Apple or Google account rather than with the app on the phone, so it keeps renewing until you cancel it in the store.

A subscription renews automatically for another month unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the plan keeps working until the period you have already paid for runs out.

Refunds are handled by the store, not by us. We have no ability to issue or reverse a charge. Request a refund through Apple or Google directly. If you are an EU consumer, your statutory withdrawal rights apply against the store as the seller of the subscription. We will of course help you work out what went wrong — we just can’t move the money.

If we change what a plan includes or what it costs, the change applies from your next renewal, never retroactively, and you can cancel before it takes effect.

AI transcription is not guaranteed to be correct

Complex Writing transcriptions are produced by Google’s Gemini AI. They can be wrong. Text recognition of any kind misreads handwriting, digits, decimal points, names, dates, tables and anything faint, skewed or damaged — and an AI model can produce a confident, fluent transcription that does not match the page.

So: check the output against the original before you rely on it, and especially before you rely on it for anything financial, medical, legal or otherwise consequential. Scan Export is a tool to save you typing, not a system of record. We give no warranty that any transcription is accurate, complete or fit for a particular purpose, and we are not responsible for what happens if you act on an incorrect one without checking it.

What you scan stays yours

You own whatever you scan, transcribe and export. We claim no rights whatsoever in it: we do not use your documents to train anything, we do not publish them, and we do not keep them. Complex Writing images pass through our backend in memory for the length of that one request and are not stored — the privacy policy sets out the detail.

What you scan is your responsibility. Only scan pages you have the right to copy, and don’t use the app to infringe someone else’s copyright or to process other people’s personal data unlawfully.

Acceptable use

Please don’t:

• break the law with it, or use it to handle material you have no right to;
• reverse engineer, decompile or tamper with the app, except where the law expressly allows it;
• work around the Complex Writing allowance, the subscription checks or the ad consent flow;
• hammer our backend with automated or abusive traffic, or resell access to it.

If an installation is abusing the backend we may rate-limit or block it. Everything that runs on your device keeps working regardless.

Availability

We don’t promise the app or the Complex Writing backend will be uninterrupted or error-free. Complex Writing depends on your connection, on our backend and on Google’s Gemini API, and any of those can be slow or unavailable. On-device scanning keeps working offline. We may change, suspend or discontinue features, and we may stop supporting old OS versions; if we ever retire a paid feature entirely, we will not keep charging for it.

Warranties and liability

The app is provided “as is”, without warranties beyond those that cannot be excluded by law. Nothing here limits your statutory rights as a consumer, and nothing here excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Subject to that: we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss — lost profits, lost business, or loss or corruption of data — and our total liability to you for any claim connected with the app is limited to what you actually paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim. Scan Export is a low-cost utility app, and that limit is meant to be proportionate to it rather than to pretend to be something larger.

Keep your own copies of anything that matters. An exported file lives on your device; if you delete the app, it goes with it, and we have no backup of it because we never had it.

The stores’ own terms also apply

You get the app through the Apple App Store or Google Play, so their terms apply to you alongside these. Apple and Google are not parties to these terms and have no obligation to you under them; any support question about the app itself comes to us, at admin@silomdigital.com.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Slovenia, and EU law where it applies, because that is where the provider is established. If you are a consumer resident in the EU, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your own country of residence and may bring proceedings in its courts; this clause does not take that away.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the updated version is published on this page with a new “Last updated” date. Continuing to use the app after that means accepting the new version. If a change materially reduces what a paid plan gives you, you can cancel before your next renewal.
